Starring Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis
Star rating:***
When I saw this trailer of this film, i was taken aback.
Using a teddy, the cutest thing on this planet, behaving like a sex crazy
teenage boy freaked me out. Written by the creators of Family Guy, crude jokes
were going to be a part of the package from the word go. So with very low
expectations I went to see this film and I found myself chuckling with the rest
of them.
John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg) is a introverted teen who is
bullied growing up in 1980's America and wishes his best friend Teddy (voiced
by Seth Macfarlane) was real. On one thundering night, Teddy comes to life and
becomes John's childhood friend. 25 years on and the pair are very much grown
up and best of friends. Teddy has now become Ted and is a has-been depressed
celebrity endorsing stoning and casual sex. John is too easygoing, much to his
girlfriend Lori (Mila Kunis) regret who is keen on settling down.
If you are expecting a family film, I would advise you to stay away as despite appearances, this is anything but that. Mark plays a role he has played many times before and comes across a likeable guy keen on holding onto his best friend. Ted is a great character and once you get over the fact that this is an adorable bear using the foulest language, he is very funny. Mila is just padding in this film and is very much the annoyed girlfriend in this very 'You, Me and Dupree' kind of film.
A good film which draws chuckles out of the audience but don't expect any huge revelations!
